CCTV cameras should stay, council told

At a time of deep recession, descending into depression, with local unemployment rising sharply, with households, individuals and businesses facing difficult economic choices, I would suggest, on grounds of public safety, public disorder, prevention of crime and assisting law enforcement, that CCTV facilities are needed now more than ever,” he said.

He called for a funding partnership between Craven District Council, Skipton Town Council, North Yorkshire County Council, North Yorkshire Police, the Safer Craven Community Partnership and Skipton Chamber of Trade to keep the cameras. The cut has already been criticised by the Safer Craven Community Partnership, which has also warned of serious implications for the town.

The CCTV system was launched in November 2000 and paid for by the then Craven Community Safety Partnership and supported by businesses and the Craven Herald.
